Print Quality & Materials

Expertly printed on luxurious 200gsm fine art paper with an elegant smooth finish, each piece is produced using a museum-grade giclée process. We use only the highest quality UV- or pigment-based inks, ensuring exceptional color depth and archival longevity: creating resistance to fading for over a century under suitable conditions.

Choosing the Right Size

We offer our prints in two size formats: inches and centimeters. If you’re in a region where inches are the framing standard (such as the US), we recommend selecting the inch-based sizes. For countries using the metric system, the centimeter variants are the best choice.

Our prints are designed to fit standard frame sizes, including those with or without a passe-partout (mat). For the most refined presentation, we recommend using a passe-partout, as it enhances the artwork’s visual impact.

Please note that for the common 20 x 29 cm passe-partout window, our A4 print size (21 x 29.7 cm) fits optimally.

For a 29 x 39 cm window, our 30 x 40 cm prints are the best choice.

Please note that some borders might be visible, based on the artwork. We design our products to accommodate to modern frames, but this is sometimes unavoidable based on the original dimensions of the artwork.

This distinguished fine art print captures the refined elegance of the 18th-century passage, as envisioned by the great riding master François Robichon de La Guérinière. Unlike its modern counterpart, the classical passage was a near-moving piaffe, with each step measured, expressive, and supremely collected. De La Guérinière prescribed a stride length of just 32 centimeters (12.5 inches), enhancing the horse’s elevation and cadence. These qualities are here beautifully embodied by the Count of St. Aignan.

A timeless tribute to the classical ideals of harmony, precision, and grace, this print is a must-have for collectors who cherish the golden age of dressage and the enduring art of the École de Cavalerie.

More about the movement

In École de Cavalerie, de La Guérinière traces the origins of the term passage to the Italian spasseggio: a cadenced, deliberate trot designed to reveal the horse’s brilliance and natural grace. The horse was expected to suspend longer on both diagonal pairs of legs, capable not only of forward movement but even moving sideways. Most importantly, he emphasized tailoring the training to each horse’s unique conformation and disposition, a principle that remains a hallmark of true horsemanship.

More about the rider

The Count of St. Aignan, portrayed here with quiet nobility, was brother to the Marquis of Beauvilliers (also featured in this collection, riding in renvers). Both were sons of Paul de Beauvilliers (1648–1714), tutor to the Duke of Burgundy - grandson of Louis XIV and father to Louis XV. While the exact nature of the family's connection to de La Guérinière remains unclear, it is likely that patronage or political alliance played a role in this intersection of noble lineage and equestrian legacy.
